Catching Hope (2015) was created for the East Valley Community Health Center. This was a competitive commission that was solicited by this non-profit health center that offers medical, dental, HIV, and mental health services to the low-income and underserved populations of the East San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys. The artwork depicts the silhouettes of blissful children at play, reaching to catch bubbles suspended in air as butterflies intermingle. Upon closer inspection, some of these bubbles contain images of health and healing to symbolize the community’s aspirations for wellness, growth, and prosperity. This artwork was created with the participation of more than 300 community members who painted the butterflies in the artwork.
