Breathe Word Flow (2013) portrays the local Santa Ana winds as a source of inspiration. Carrying words written by poet Juan Delgado, the wind flows around the pylon, a budding branch extends towards a patch of dandelions. Perched upon a leaf, a praying mantis blows on the matured seed head to make a wish, and the seeds are released upwards, into the air stream. The wind poem flows into the palm of a human hand while hummingbirds flock overhead. This collaborative design conjures an eloquent optimism using the metaphor of the powerful Santa Ana winds carrying an aspiration to fruition, and all the vital elemental forces at play.
